Secrets of a Billionaire-Book One
Clean romance/suspense
Delaney has long struggled with the burdens of her new identity in the witness protection program. The isolation and constant fear have made her resent the need to constantly reinvent herself, yet she clings to the hope of leading a normal life.
Enter Ben Stansfield, a billionaire with secrets of his own. Alongside his friends, he embarks on an elaborate bet to see who could live life the longest as part of the working class, leaving behind their luxurious life.
Delaney and Ben's lives change when he now is drawn into the role he never expected: protector, when Delaney's past threatens to catch up with her.
This funny, clean romance/suspense is full of twists and turns. It will leave you wanting to find an "average" billionaire of your own.
Contemporary Romance Excerpt:
“I think I want the prime rib," Delaney said.
“Good choice.” Ben kept studying his menu.
His thoughts were interrupted by Delaney’s panicked voice. “We need to leave now!” Her voice was a whisper, but the terror on her face couldn’t be denied.
“Is everything okay?”
“No. We need to leave now. Out the back door.” Delaney got up and hurried toward the kitchen.
Ben felt a sense of unease. He placed two hundred dollars on the table and followed her. The kitchen staff was yelling at Delaney as she walked past the chef toward the back door. Ben apologized for their intrusion. He watched Delaney run to the gas station next door. She hid behind a big pile of tires. What had her so terrified?
Ben whispered as he knelt next to her, “What’s going on?”
“Did you notice anyone following you?” Delaney was breathing hard.
“No, but I wasn’t paying attention.” Ben had never seen the look of terror that was in Delaney’s eyes.
“I need you to leave. This is too dangerous.” Delaney tried crouching down more.
“I’m not leaving you alone.” Ben couldn’t understand why she was hiding. But if she was in danger, he wasn’t going to leave her alone.
“Please, I don’t want them to see you with me. I’m trying to keep you safe. Please leave.” Delaney sounded like she was ready to sob.
“No. I’m not leaving! Let me take you somewhere safe.”
“I can’t risk that.”
“Don’t shut me out. I’m getting my truck and I’ll get you out of here.”
Delaney nodded.
Ben was confused. Who would want to hurt Delaney? What did she see? Whoever it was made her terrified. As he walked back to his truck, Ben had an increased awareness of his surroundings and people. He had no idea who he was watching for, but he felt better knowing that he was being diligent. He pulled up to the mound of tires. Delaney crept to the far side of the truck and got in. She stayed crouched down in the front seat.
"Do you want to sit up now?" Ben asked.
“No. It’s safer this way. I don’t want anyone to see us together.”
“I’m not worried about me.”
“I’m not pulling you into this lifestyle. I tried to live a normal life while I was here, and it didn’t work. The chance that I’ve been spotted with you makes me sick.” Delaney was shivering.
“Delaney, I need you in my life. You’re not getting rid of me that easily.” Ben was surprised by his stern voice. "I can protect you."
“I can’t even protect myself. How could you?”
“I can fly you out of this state at any time. I can hire bodyguards. I can buy you a house where you can hide away.”
Delaney held up her hand to stop him and chuckled. “Okay, I get it.”
